Wal, Sniffa & Hilly Provide Hope
All teams struggled except for the 6ths where Mick Cutler took 4/16 while Alex Hill (63) and Paul Bennett (80) provided stiff resistance for the 3rds and 2nds respectively, providing some hope for the second half of the round.
The 1sts took on Hampton Central away and in spite of many of the batting order getting a start, nobody really went on with the job. Captain Guy Martyn made 39 as the 1sts made 199 in a total that while not outstanding, should be enough to defend.
The 2nds played Cluden at Chisholm Reserve and after a dream start lead by Paul 'Wal' Bennet, fell away badly to be all out for 156. Cluden were 1/37 in reply.
The 3rds also had a hard time against Southside with Captain Alex Hill (63) playing a lone hand in his team's innings of 143. Fortunately, support from tailenders Tim Berger and James Napier helped the team to a total a lot higher than it could have been.
The 4ths took on West Bentleigh at home and after winning the toss, sent the opposition into bat. In a tough day, Steve 'Jacko' User was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/54 of 21 overs, ably supported by Angus Lawrence (3/48 off 9 overs).
The 6ths faced Elwood after their disappointing loss to Highett last week and through an excellent opening spell by Alex Greaterex and President, Mick 'Sniffer' Cutler, ripped through the opposition to have them all out for 71. At stumps, they were 1/15 in reply on an unpredictable pitch.
