The kids run riot in T20 win!
The ESBCC T20 team last night produced a very polished performance to beat Elwood by 131 runs in their first T20 outing for the season.
After losing captain Mark Devereaux for a 2nd ball duck, Chris Diggle teamed firstly with Odin Duesbury (20) for a 78 run partnership and then a 99 run partnership with Brad Hodge (56) before departing with a brilliant yet clinical 93. A couple of quick wickets fell which brought Matt Blunden (15no) and Ben Pryor (10no) together to finish off the innings with a quick fire 30 run partnership that had the boys belt up 5/212 off their 20 overs.
In reply the lads had Elwood quickly on the ropes with openers Liam Polinelli 3/18 (3 overs) and Hamish McCartney 2/21 (4 overs) making initial breakthroughs. This was ably supported by Brad Hodge 2/21 (3 overs) with Matt Harris 2/3 (1.4 overs) cleaning up the last 2 wickets. On top of a great bowling performance was a sensational fielding performance that included brilliant catching, outfielding and a direct hit run out by Chris Diggle that ensured Elwood were never in the game.
All this points to a bright future for the club with 7 of the team being between 15 and 20 years of age.
