1sts roll into Christmas

Week 2 of round 7 saw the 1st XI (3/152) having little trouble passing West Bentleigh’s 151. After the bowlers contained their batting lineup to all out for 151, Nathan Murphy made a solid 24 and Anton Duddy added 27 to see off the new ball but Duddy fell just before tea and at the break the boys were 3/78 and West were still a chance but Guy Martyn (58*) proved to be the stumbling block and with support from Jayme Saleem (19*) saw the ones through without further loss. The 1sts are now in the 4 with a great opportunity to consolidate their finals chances after the Christmas break.

A mid season rally by the 5ths saw them beat Elwood by 1 wicket with 6 overs to spare. Stars with the bat in the run chase were Ben Pryor 58 and Rees Emsley 26no. The win, their second in a row, leaves them only one game out of the 4. The other grades unfortunately all had losses but some consistent form in the New Year still gives a chance of playing in finals.

With the first half of the season now completed we wish all members and supporters a wonderful festive season and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
