Week 1 of finals brings mixed results

The first week of finals delivered a resounding win to the 4th's, thereby progressing straight to the grand final whilst the 1st's had a below par performance but the chance to progress by playing in the preliminary final this weekend.

For the 4ths an all-round batting performance helped the boys amass 6/288 with David Pook (76) top scoring. He was ably helped by Ryan McMurray (52no), Graeme Diggle (49) Rod Devereaux (29) and Lindsay Cooper (27).

The bowling was tight and never let Elwood in, closing their innings at all out for 142. The chief destroyer again was Ryan McMurray with 5/39, supported by Craig Clarke (2/12) and Lindsay cooper (2/21).

The 1st's were off to a slow start being 3/18 at one stage but recovered to be 9/175, Anton Duddy (45) and Brett Hampton (41) consolidated through the middle of the innings whilst Brendan Bennett (34) hit out at the end to get the boys to a relatively competitive score.

Our bowlers needed early wickets to put Bentleigh Uniting under pressure and at one stage had them 3/58. Despite some steady bowling blunted by some patient batting the score from the day before was just not enough.

The one's are still alive and playing for their grand final spot over this weekend, be sure to get down and support them at Hurlingham Park both Saturday and Sunday from 1:00pm.
